“Never Flutes” Ribber CO
You will be creating 2 ravel cords
using waste yarn (W/Y). Because the MC CO occurs over W/Y rather
than the metal, ribber, CO wire, this CO is much tighter. Yet, the
elasticity of the CO remains the same. This also gives you a “handle”
to grab when you tube the knitting. Because the initial CO is W/Y
that is removed, you only need to K the zigzag R for the W/Y CO.
1x1 Procedure
Arrange the ndls in your ribbing
pattern. With W/Y, K the zigzag R. Hang the weights and comb. Immediately
start knitting. K about 2 inches, ending with the COR. Set the carriages
to circular. INC tensions on both beds by 1 whole number. *Using
the ribber “ work hook tool”, pull the yarn down between
the beds. Holding this yarn below the beds, K 1 R.* This forms a
long loop, and the ravel cord for the ribber Sts. Repeat from *-*.
This forms a second long loop, and the ravel cord for the main bed
Sts. To prevent this second loop from jumping up onto the gate pegs,
hang a latch tool from this loop. Set the carriages to “Normal”.
Using the work hook tool, pull the W/Y down between the beds and
cut. With MC, K the zigzag R, circular Rs, and ribbing, according
to your pattern’s tensions.
2x2, 2x1 Procedure
Before racking, set-up the main
bed ndls. Using the main bed ndls as a guide, arrange the ribber
ndls to coincide. Now, rack the ribber. Pull up the additional ribber
ndl on the left as you normally do. Leave the ribber in this position
throughout the W/Y knitting. With W/Y, K about 2 inches, ending
with the COR. Set carriages to circular. INC tensions on both beds
by 1 whole number. *Using the ribber “ work hook tool”,
pull the yarn down between the beds. Holding this yarn below the
beds, K 1 R.* This forms a long loop, and the ravel cord for the
ribber Sts. Repeat from *-*. This forms a second long loop, and
the ravel cord for the main bed Sts. To prevent this second loop
from jumping up onto the gate pegs, hang a latch tool from this
loop. Set the carriages to “Normal”. Using the work
hook tool, pull the W/Y down between the beds and cut. With MC,
K the zigzag, and the 3 circular Rs, according to your pattern’s
tensions. Rack the ribber, and transfer the additional ribber St
as you normally do. Continue to K the ribbing.
Note:
When removing these ravel cords,
cut the second long loop in half. (This is the loop on the left
side of your work.) Trim the first long loop as close to the knitting
as possible. (This is the loop on the right side of your work. Be
careful not to cut the MC yarn tail
on this side.) Do not attempt to remove both cords at once. Pick
either one and remove it first. Never treat these yarns as “real”
ravel cord. Remember, “real” ravel cord is nylon and
extremely strong. These cords are yarn. Too much tugging can break
the cords. All is not lost; however, picking out the newly tightened
yarn becomes a pain. |
