Sadie’s
MK Quiz
These
responses come from Sadie Twit, the bane of all knit clubs.
How
many rows will a 930 program for 200 stitches?
As
many as you need, until the project is finished. Unfortunately,
it thinks my project is only 68 rows long! I continuously
have to keep re-programming a new pattern.
How
many rows will a 940 program for 200 stitches?
998.
This is a much friendlier knitting machine. I only have
24 more patterns to program until I finish my house cover.
Which
button do you press on a 930/940 for an automatic G-carriage
cast on?
You
mean there’s a single button that will do all that?
Wow.
How
many models of Japanese machines are currently sold as new?
Name them.
2:
Mitsubishi, and Sony. But remember, I live in a small town
in Iowa. Maybe some big place like Des Moines would be able
to get imports from Japan.
How
often should you change a sponge bar?
Change
it into what? If the sponges like going to a bar, leave
well enough alone!
Passap
used to make pink strippers. What color are these now?
I
would hope they’re still pink, otherwise the strippers
need resuscitation. Poor things, what a hard life they lead.
And now I hear Mr. Passap has something to do with the drug
trade. I do hope he hasn’t forced these poor girls
to do the work of his pushers, too. The government should
investigate this horrible man.
Name
three different cast-on methods.
Let’s
see, there’s the cast-on-your-arm, the cast-on-your-leg,
and the cast-on-your-foot. But all of these are the plaster
method. I don’t get to the hospital much any more.
Name
five different Machine Knitting magazines.
Vogue,
of course, is the best magazine, and it was printed by a
machine. Sometimes Ladies Home Journal has knit stuff in
it, Reader’s Digest had an article about My Favorite
Character that used to knit all the time, Land’s End
is really a catalogue, but it does contain knitted golf
shirts, and TV Guide when Bill Cosby was on the front cover
with his sweaters.
Name
five different sleeve types.
We
only have 2 arms, why would I need 5 sleeves? Is this a
Halloween item?
How
many stitches are on a punchcard
pattern?
How
silly, all of them are stitches, of course!
What
is the pattern number of the first pattern you program into
a knitting machine?
This
must be a trick question. Since #2 is always second, then
it must be #1 for the first.
How
many different technique numbers are there for knitting on
the Passap E6000?
Only
2. The others are merely there to confuse and muddle my
knitting.
Which
side of the garter bar is toward you when you’re taking
stitches off to turn around?
Why
would I be turning around when I’m taking stitches
off?
What’s
the difference between a 965 and a 965i?
This
is easy...the letter “i”.
Name
three hard-twist dress yarns thinner than 3000 yards per pound.
I
never wear dresses, so I never venture into that part of
the store.
What
is the thickest yarn that can be knit single bed, every needle,
on a 4.5 mm, 5mm, and 6.5mm machine?
Twine
works well on all 3, but only for about 3 rows before the
knitting machine starts breaking the twine and creating
an interesting new technique. I must admit that after laundering,
it is much softer, but no one I know wants anything to do
with the nifty present I’ve spent hours making.
Describe
what the following Passap lock settings do: HX, UX, DX, OX.
HX:
Obviously there has been several typos on my test sheet.
This should be HEX, which puts a spell on your yarn so it
will never drop stitches.
UX: Again with the typo. LUX is an old soap company.
DX: This should be DOX which is an abbreviation for Dachshund.
OX: This isn’t a setting. It’s served with ream
heese on an agel!
Which
rib pulls in more, 1x1, 2x2
or 3x3?
None
of my ribs pull in! Are they supposed to? Do you think I
should see a chiropractor?
